LOCAL WATER COMPANY WARNS OF BLOOD WORMS

In a statement sent to the media, The Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) has warned customers about blood worms that have been found in some of the water taps in the area of Mazenod.

This after residents of Ha Lekhobanhyane, Ha Sekepe and Ha Nko were shocked to discover tiny red worms in their drinking water recently.

Wasco said the action included cleaning and flushing of the water pipes of the affected customers.

It added that the main distribution pipeline would also be cleaned and flushed so as to ensure supply of safe potable water.  These efforts, it noted, were at an advanced stage.

The company warned: “The blood worms’ presence in the water supply system does not pose any health risk. However, WASCO advises customers to filter the water installing strainers in their taps.”

Bloodworms themselves are harmless if swallowed, but a large infestation of bloodworms may be indicative of other water quality issues.
