Former Minister Malusi Gigaba denied ties with the Gupta family on the stand of the Zondo Commission on Friday.
Gigaba was answering against evidence provided by his estranged wife, Norma Mngoma that points that some of his ministerial decisions were influenced by the Gupta family. He denied having any relationship with the family citing that he only knew them because they attended the same social and cultural events.
He said Mngoma’s evidence were creative extensive lies and fabrications though he admitted to visiting the family’s compound at Saxonwold numerous time that do not amount to 20 as Mngoma declared.
He also admitted to having met Gupta’s associate Salim Essa on a few occasions but denied ever meeting him in private. He said none of his ministerial duties have been affected by the Gupta family and that had any irregularities been brought to his attention when he was still in office, he could have dealt with them.
