A new type of Coronavirus originating from dogs has been discovered in Malaysian state of Sarawak on Thursday.
A research study published in the Clinical Infections Diseases journal shows an emergence of a new public threat of animal corona virus. The study was conducted on 301 patients with pneumonia at a hospital in the East of the country.
Eight positive results of canine coronavirus were attained from five children under the age of five. Other findings also found similar features of CCoV-HuPn-2018 in the canine corona virus. It also contained a genetic mutation that was found SARS-COV and SARS-COV-2, the corona virus responsible for the current human pandemic.
Authors of the study says the virus has likely recently skipped to humans from animals but more studies will be needed to verify that theory. They are also unsure whether the canine virus can be deadly or infectious in humans.
Currently only 7 viruses have been verified to cause diseases in humans and the current one is yet to be studied more.
