Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament, Phumzile Van Damme has resigned from her post on Thursday.
Van Damme announced on a statement on Thursday that she was calling it quits as the party’s Member of Parliament. Many understood that she was leaving the party altogether, but she later corrected her statement clearing that she is only leaving the post of Representative and not the party.
She has been serving as the party’s MP since 2014 and stressed the fact that she will not engage in any back and forth if the party wants to take her on. She clarified that she will not be joining any other political party or attack the DA.
Some allegations points that she might be leaving the party due to federal legal process over an incident that took place in 2018 at Waterfront mall.
DA accepted her clarification that she will not be leaving the party totally but merely stepping down from her post.
