South Africa has recorded 3 332 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 628 335, this is dated as of 22, May 2021.
According to research done by the SMCNews, the country has also recorded 151 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Friday. This brings the total number of deaths to 55 719.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Free State.
“Regrettably, we report 151 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 6, Free State 72, Gauteng 20, Kwa-Zulu Natal 2, Limpopo 17, Mpumalanga 4, North West 0, Northern Cape 15 and Western Cape 15,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 534 350.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 11 281 820.
